BOARD OF EDUCATION
NOVEMBER 13, 2017 REGULAR MEETING
FOR THE SKYLINE STAFF AND PATRONS

The Skyline Board of Education met in regular session Monday, November 13, 2017. Routine business included approval of minutes, payment of bills, Treasurer’s Report, and the SCKSEC October minutes.

The first item of business was the Superintendent’s report from Becca Flowers. Her report included the KSDE REDESIGN Project, KESA and upcoming special luncheons.

The Board approved contract with Tiffany Zimmerman as a Teacher’s Aid and approved the resignation of Amanda Collins. Kimberly Tritt was also appointed as the new District Treasurer.

The Board heard a report from Herb McPherson on the proposal to add High School Baseball and Softball in the 2018-19 school year. They also heard information on consideration of a new teacher aide position that will also be shared with SCKSEC.

The following KESA goals were accepted as goal areas for the current accreditation cycle: Relationship/Students, Relationships/Community, Relevance/Instruction and Relevance/Student Engagement.

Becca Flowers and Herb McPherson reported on their buildings’ activities.

The next meeting will be Monday, December 11, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.

OCTOBER 9, 2017 REGULAR MEETING
FOR THE SKYLINE STAFF AND PATRONS

The Skyline Board of Education met in regular session Monday, October 9, 2017. Routine business included approval of minutes, payment of bills, Treasurer’s Report, PDC Reports and the SCKSEC September minutes.

The first item of business was the Superintendent’s report from Becca Flowers. Her report included the Kansas Supreme Court Decision, 2017/18 Enrollment, KSDE REDESIGN Project and KESA.

The Board approved contracts with Bonnie West, Bus Driver, Mary Robinson, Custodian, Melissa Jacobs and Karen Kumberg as Science Fair Coordinators and Brenda Piester as a Teacher’s Aid, Science Fair Coordinator, Science Olympiads Sponsor and Scholars’ Bowl Sponsor.

The Board heard a report from Dave McComb on last year’s activity of the Skyline Schools Foundation, accepted the donation of a CPR Training Kit from Jennifer Thompson, Senior Youth Market Director with the American Heart Association donated by the Wichita Board of Directors of the American Heart Association and heard a report from Diane House on ACT Scores.

Becca Flowers and Herb McPherson reported on their buildings’ activities.

The next meeting will be Monday, November 13, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

The Skyline Board of Education met in regular session Monday, September 11, 2017. Routine business included approval of minutes, payment of bills, Treasurer’s Report, PDC Reports and the SCKSEC August minutes.

The first item of business was the Superintendent’s report from Becca Flowers. Her report included the Kansas Supreme Court Decision, preliminary 2017/18 Enrollment, KSDE REDISIGN Project and KESA.

The Board approved contracts with Roy Haines, Bus Driver, Brad Pagenkopf as Driver’s Education Instructor, Cheri Haskett as Head HS Play Director and Kristi Nelson as Asst. HS Play Director, Sara Lewton as Student & Family Support Coordinator, Chris Sanders as HS Asst. Boys Basketball Coach and Don Buhler as a Library Aide. The Board also accepted Tom Garland’s resignation as a Bus Driver.

The Board heard a report from Stan Busby of Busby Ford & Reimer, LLC on the FY2017 Audit, and heard a report from Diane House on the KS BOE Outcomes and Individual Plan of Study for all HS students.

Updates were reported on the summer projects and concerns with getting workers to take high school football gate.

The next meeting will be Monday, October 9, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

AUGUST 14, 2017 REGULAR MEETING
FOR THE SKYLINE STAFF AND PATRONS

The Skyline Board of Education met in regular session Monday, August 14, 2017. Routine business included approval of minutes, payment of bills, Treasurer’s Report, and the SCKSEC July minutes.

The first item of business was the Superintendent’s report from Becca Flowers. Her report included the FY2018 Budget, the Kansas Supreme Court Decision, Enrollment Projections, KSDE Redesign Project and our Budget Hearing.

The Board approved contracts with Starla Davidson, Food Service Worker, Heidi McKennon, School Nurse, Shirley Raney, Bus Driver, Chris Sanders as MS Asst. Football Coach and Ashley Hansen and Amanda Collins as Teacher’s Aids.  The Board also accepted Elize Cillier’s resignation as a Teacher’s Aid.

The Board approved additional compensation for individuals in the bargaining unit, payments not in excess of $10,000, the proposed changes to the Wellness Policy in the District Policy Book and in the ES, MS and HS handbooks, the creation of a new student support position and the ratification of the 2017-18 SNEA Agreement.

Updates were reported on the proposal to add HS baseball and softball, new big gym roof, repair and refinish of the big gym floor, and summer projects.

The Budget Hearing will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 7:30 a.m.  The next regular meeting will be Monday, September 11, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.  The Board will meet with PCC Trustees at 6:00 before the meeting.

Thunderbirds on the Prairie

Skyline Schools will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary the coming school year. Many great events will occur during the school year with a big event on Saturday, April 28th. Thunderbirds on the Prairie, our Inaugural Car Show is scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 2017. Mark your calendar to attend!carshow

JULY 10, 2017 REGULAR MEETING
FOR THE SKYLINE STAFF AND PATRONS

The Skyline Board of Education met in regular session Monday, July 10, 2017. Routine business included approval of minutes, payment of bills, PDC Reports and the SCKSEC June minutes.

An election was held first. Rex Robinson and Bob Kenworthy were re-elected to their President and Vice-President offices.

The first item of business was the Superintendent’s report from Becca Flowers. Her report included Goals, a Legislative Update, the FY2018 Budget and a Post Secondary Success Report created by KSDE. Mrs. Flowers reported that she will attend the Supreme Court Oral Arguments on the Gannon Case scheduled for July 18, 2017.

The Board approved contracts with Kenny Eddy as HS Head Basketball Coach and Lawana Robinson, Stacie Tharp and Jane Biles as Teacher’s Aids. The Board also accepted Karen Wilcox’s resignation as School Nurse.

The Board approved all the Board Organization items for FY2018 and Publishing of the Notice of Budget Hearing in August to be determined after the Supreme Court ruling regarding the school finance law.

Updates were reported on the new big gym roof scheduled for replacement on July 17, 2017 and a recent Facilities meeting.

The next meeting will be Monday, August 14, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. *Unless we are able to schedule the budget hearing for August 14, 2017 then the time may vary.

JUNE 12, 2017 REGULAR MEETING
FOR THE SKYLINE STAFF AND PATRONS

The Skyline Board of Education met in regular session Monday, June 12, 2017 and reconvened on June 30, 2017. Routine business included approval of minutes, payment of bills, Treasurer’s report, PDC Reports and the SCKSEC May minutes.

The first item of business was the Superintendent’s report from Becca Flowers. Her report included a Legislative Update, information on the patio being constructed at the front of the building and a listing of the summer projects.

The Board approved contracts with Trent Befort as MS Head Football Coach and John Wyer for the Building Maintenance position. The Board also accepted Aleta Gatz’s resignation as a Custodian/Teacher’s Aide, Steve Little’s resignation as the High School Boys Basketball Coach and High School Track Coach and Kathryn McAllister’s resignation as a High School Track Coach.

The Board also heard a request from Pat and Ludi Egging on the process for the Board to consider addition of High School Baseball and Softball.

The Board heard Principal Reports from Becca Flowers and Herb McPherson.

The Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding between USD#438 and the Pratt County Sheriff, Pratt County Court and the Pratt County Attorney, and after holding a public hearing approved the Interlocal Agreement to participate in the Pratt County Neighborhood Revitalization Plan. The Board also approved District Board Policy EE – Food Services Management – Unpaid Meal Charges
.

The Board also approved end of year transfers, the proposed 2017/18 School Fees and to allow Animal Science as a High School Science Credit and Accounting as a High School Math Credit.

The next meeting will be Monday, July 10, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

APRIL 10, 2017 REGULAR MEETING
FOR THE SKYLINE STAFF AND PATRONS

The Skyline Board of Education met in regular session Monday, April 10, 2017. Routine business included approval of minutes, payment of bills, Treasurer’s report, PDC Reports and the SCKSEC March minutes.

The first item of business was the Superintendent’s report from Becca Flowers. Her report included a Legislative Update, Facilities Update, Q3 Financial Update, and learning and networking opportunities.

The Board approved contracts with Lori Anschutz as Middle and High School Math Teacher and the revised Supplemental Contract List. The Board also accepted Michelle Keener’s resignation as Vocational Agricultural teacher effective June 30, 2017.

The Board heard Principals’ Report from Becca Flowers and Herb McPherson.

The Board authorized the purchase of two school vehicles not to exceed $55,000 and reviewed the proposed vehicle rotation plan and heard an update on the Gym Roof bids being accepted until May 1, 2017. Upcoming Board of Educations elections were also discussed.

The next meeting will be Monday, May 8, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

MARCH 13, 2017 REGULAR MEETING
FOR THE SKYLINE STAFF AND PATRONS

The Skyline Board of Education met in regular session Monday, March 13, 2017. Routine business included approval of minutes, payment of bills, Treasurer’s report, PDC Reports and the SCKSEC February minutes.

The first item of business was the Superintendent’s report from Becca Flowers. Her report included a Legislative Update and learning and networking opportunities.

The Board approved contracts with Andrew Nation as the Head High School Football Coach and Hannah Barilla as a part-time elementary teacher for the 2017 – 2018 school year. The Board also approved 2-year contracts with Administrators’ Flowers and McPherson.

The Board heard a Principals’ Report from Becca Flowers. In addition, Mrs. Flowers reported on a capital outlay spending plan, our Math & Science Partnership (MSP) Grant and our district’s participation in the County Preparedness Badge Program.

The Board also heard an update on plans to repair the big gym floor and roof over the summer and plans to replace the rooftop heating and air conditioning units over the south high school hall classrooms and the main boys and girls bathrooms and technology office; and changes to the K-1-2 classroom walls over spring break.

The Board approved the 2017-2018 school calendar and the proposed BOE Policy updates.

The next meeting will be Monday, April 10, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

FEBRUARY 13, 2017 REGULAR MEETING
FOR THE SKYLINE STAFF AND PATRONS

The Skyline Board of Education met in regular session Monday, February 13, 2017. Routine business included approval of minutes, payment of bills, Treasurer’s report, PDC Reports and the SCKSEC January minutes.

The Board heard concerns that Michael Florez, Parent, has with the Skyline Schools District and their recent actions placing restrictions on his presence on the school grounds.

The first item of business was the Superintendent’s report from Becca Flowers. Her report included a Legislative Update, Facilities Committee Meeting report, and that a Site Based Council Meeting is scheduled for February 15, 2017.

The Board approved contracts with Andrew Nation and Chris Sanders as MS  Boys and Girls Track Coaches.

The Board heard Principals’ Reports from Becca Flowers and Herb McPherson.

The Board also heard an update on plans to repair the gym floor and replace rooftop heating and air conditioning units over the south high school hall classrooms and the main boys and girls bathrooms and technology office, and the decision not to pursue alternatives to our current health insurance plan at this time.

The Board had a first read at the proposed 2017-2018 school calendar and BOE Policy updates.

The next meeting will be Monday, March 13, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.
