BOARD OF EDUCATION
FEBRUARY 8, 2016 REGULAR MEETING
FOR THE SKYLINE STAFF AND PATRONS
The Skyline Board of Education met in regular session Monday, February 8, 2016. Routine business included payment of bills, Treasurer’s report, and the SCKSEC Minutes.
The first item of business was the Superintendent’s report from Becca Flowers on a Legislative Report and KS BOE Vision. The Board also heard building reports from Becca Flowers and Herb McPherson.
The Board had first reads on the proposed 2016-17 school calendar and KASB Recommended Policy Updates dated December 2015.
Lynette Freeman gave a presentation to the Board concerns regarding the safety and age of our current playground equipment. A committee was formed of Becca Flowers, Rick Shriver, Dan Kemmis, Lynette Freeman and 2 – 3 other parents to be named at a later date. They will see input from parents and teachers and make a recommendation on updates to the playground. They will also work with different entities to see about available grants. Possible fundraising was also mentioned. The committee will also consult with the Skyline Schools Foundation who currently has a fundraising campaign going.
The Board approved proceeding with implementing a High School Agriculture Education program. They also approved Nancy Bixler’s resignation effective at the end of the 2015-16 school year and Pam Lucas as the High School Science teacher and Diane House as a Student Success Coach both effective with the 2016-17 school year.
A resolution was also passed authorizing the superintendent up to $5,000 as incentive and/or retention bonuses pursuant to KSA 72-8246.
In other business, the Board approved the following PDC Reports – Service to the Profession: Harmony Harts (2) and Beth Walters; College Courses: Harmony Harts (2), Diane House (2) and Cheryl Nash (2).
The next meeting will be Monday, March 14, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.
